Battery-Grade Ethylene Carbonate
Building a Domestic Supply of Ethylene Carbonate

Arcanum Ventures is developing a U.S. Gulf Coast facility to produce battery-grade ethylene carbonate (EC), a critical component of lithium-ion battery electrolytes.

Strengthening the U.S. Battery Supply Chain

The United States currently relies heavily on imports for battery-grade ethylene carbonate. As domestic battery and electrolyte manufacturing expands, that dependence becomes a growing point of exposure — on lead times, logistics, and trade policy. Arcanum is developing a reliable U.S. source built to close that gap.

Proven Technology. U.S. Manufacturing.

Our project will use commercially proven technology to convert ethylene oxide and carbon dioxide into high-purity ethylene carbonate. By integrating with existing Gulf Coast chemical infrastructure — built on the region's feedstock, logistics, and manufacturing advantages — Arcanum intends to create a competitive domestic supply option for U.S. electrolyte manufacturers.

Selected for U.S. DOE Funding

In August 2026, Arcanum was selected for $50 million in funding from the U.S. Department of Energy to support development of its domestic ethylene carbonate project, subject to award negotiations.
